4 Marketing Tactics You Must Tackle When Starting a Small Business

4 Marketing Tactics You Must Tackle When Starting a Small Business

As you know, most consumers do online research prior to engaging with a company for the first time, whether large or small. For this reason, it's imperative to have a functional, compelling, and easy to navigate website for your business. Without a website, consumers may overlook your business and go straight to your competition. In addition, you must tackle a few crucial marketing tactics along the way, which are discussed below:

1. Optimize Your Website for People and Search Engines

People want instant gratification when they browse the web. You should make sure your website loads quickly. All pertinent information should be readily available. The homepage should include a clear call to action so consumers know what they should do next. All of these activities will help with your search engine results. When people "Google" something related to your business and industry, you want your website to be on the first page.

2. Use Keywords

Keywords are essential to any small business marketing strategy. There are plenty of tools, such as Keywordtool.io, Google Trends, and Google AdWords Keyword Planner, to help you locate words to target. You need to include those keywords into the content of your website, making sure the content still comes across as natural.

3. Review Your Online Reputation

Even the smallest of businesses need to ensure their reputations are secure. You should establish a Google alert so you know any time an article comes out mentioning your company. Also check your reviews on Google and other review sites because many consumers look up a business’s reviews before visiting. You need to remain cognizant of any bad reviews and respond appropriately.

4. Get Customers’ Email Addresses

If you own a brick and mortar or online store, capture customer emails during the check out process. If not, add a popup email capture form to the homepage of your website. With these, you can set up an email marketing plan where you let customers know about new products or services and special promotions. You can even use those emails to ask for more reviews. Email blasts are a great way to remind customers that your business exists and gives them a reason to return.

While there are many advanced digital marketing strategies to implement, these simple ideas are a great place to start. Today, people spend a great deal of time on their phones and on their laptops, so make sure your business is there, too!
